OUR HISTORY

The Malatesta name is synonymous with Bunbury and the South West. Our company has been heavily involved in developing the regions infrastructure and growing road network since 1978.

1978
Malatesta was founded in 1978 by Robin & Maxine Malatesta. The business started with one asphalt plant, one asphalt crew and a low loader trailer employing 7 people in total. The hot mix was carted by Robin's brother who initially owned Malatesta Cartage.

By 1980 Robin operated two prime mover trucks plus one tipper truck for the asphalt of his own.

Spray sealing work began with one sprayer truck and operator in the early 80s, and has grown to 3 sprayers, 4 spreaders and a full time sealing team.

1985
In 1985 the second asphalt plant was commissioned and ran until 2002 until it was replaced by the current plant which can produce up to 100 tonne per hour.

In 1990, the business relocated its main operations to Lot 2, South Western Highway from Palmer Crescent, Davenport in Bunbury.

Major jobs of the 1980s and 1990s included Big W car park, Centrepoint car park, Simcoa, Worsley, Local Governments and the Main street of Bunbury.

1993
The bitumen bulk storage facility was built at our current premises in 1993, signalling in a major competitive advantage and an era of growth and continued business success.

1995
Robin & Maxine Malatesta built and operated Koombana Bay Resort in Bunbury from 1995, and continued its management until 2005.

2000s
Major projects of the 2000s included Koolan Island Air Strip, Wespine Bunbury, Bunbury Port Access Road Stage 1 and Local Government projects.

Since 2013, major jobs have included the Eaton Fair Expansion, Busselton Hospital, Spencer St/Beach Rd intersection, CBH Depot’s in the Wheatbelt, as well as continued Local Government projects for City of BunburyCity of BusseltonShire of Dardanup and Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

Currently Malatesta's fleet consists of ten 6 wheel tipper trucks, two 8 wheel tippers, three bitumen spray trucks, three asphalt pavers and a comprehensive range of machinery including loaders, rollers and a grader.

Malatesta Road Paving and Hot Mix is a Bunbury based company focused on providing Bituminous Surfacing and Asphalt to the South West of WA. 

Founded in 1978 with one asphalt team, bringing the huge benefit of local asphalt production to the South West the Company has grown to employ 65 local people and services clients all over WA.
The Quality Laboratory started testing construction materials for roads and concrete in 1984 endorsed by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia.
Greenwaste recycling began at the depot in approximately 1990.

ASPHALT PRODUCTION

Malatesta Group remains the preferred supplier for numerous major clients across the South West region, including local government shires and leading civil contractors. Malatesta Group operates two dedicated asphalt teams and a full fleet of machinery and equipment capable of completing all types of paving works to the highest standards.

Malatesta also operates a fully equipped laboratory providing NATA-certified quality assurance testing, ensuring all materials and works consistently meet industry and client specifications.

Malatesta Group is equipped with the leading edge Benninghoven Eco 3000 Asphalt batch plant that is capable of up to 160 tonnes per hour production rate including hot storage bins.

Malatesta provide Bitumen Spray Sealing work all over WA. We take pride in our work, and achieve cost effective, long lasting sealed roads for a number of local government shires and major civil contractors.
